There’s the ever-present air of excitement, adrenaline levels are high, there’s lots to be done and a day has just so many hours… The team however is not fazed. They know they can do it!
When the mandate is big, the responsibilities accompanying the mandate too are big. And so it is at UWBe, which has undertaken to solve complex issues in society, with the participation of all stakeholders – government, communities, corporate entities, NGOs and others.
The result is in the rich and diverse mix of projects ongoing at any one time. Lake rejuvenation, sewage treatment plants, greening of lake environments, early childhood education, Student scholarship programme, Integrated Rural development and empowerment of women are just some of these. And each of these come with an exhaustive list of ‘to do’ things – obtain permissions, funding, community involvement and participation, meet deadlines, maintain accountability and the list goes on and on…
The UWBe WhatsApp group bears testimony to the energy and verve that runs through the team. On any given day, the team exchanges 75-100 updates. The pictures, the one-liners, the results and the energy come right through. One can write a whole report by just extracting the WhatsApp messages!
So, does a lean team mean compromised results? Does a lean team mean being spread thin? On the contrary, the UWBe team has cracked the spirit of partnerships. By drawing in communities, volunteers, student interns and other stakeholders, the team at UWBe not only achieves big results. It also ensures involvement and collective ownership.
