The Bengaluru chapter of United Way Worldwide started in 2008, with the vision to make lasting and effective change within our city and the rural areas around it. By bringing communities together, unleashing their potential and ours, we work towards creating positive change in society.
"There Is No Power ForChange Greater Than A Community Discovering What It Cares About” – Margaret J Wheatley
Today, we have grown big in size and dreams and working with communities and organizations across different states of India.
All our work is aligned to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and we are committed to doing our bit to ensure they are achieved.
We believe that "If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself” – Henry Ford
Health is a vital building block of life. And to make it easily available for all, it requires a dedicated, systematic, and holistic approach. This is why we work with partners to cover all bases across the continuum of care — from child and maternal care to geriatric and end-stage palliative care.
And we don’t stop at that. Our highly inclusive model extends a helping hand to the marginalized sections of our society — homeless, elders, people with physical and mental disabilities — to eliminate barriers and deliver care to all where they need it.
Childhood success is the very foundation of productivity and quality of life in communities of the future. We believe, a person can have the power to improve their own life if they are given a chance to grow up in good health, with good education. And to make this possible, we partner with government anganwadis that work to develop the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional skills to ensure school readiness.
As part of our commitment to strengthen the building blocks of life, we run an extensive program for youth success. Our focus is to mentor the younger generation and provide financial support for their higher education. Through skill development and placement trainings, we make sure our youth community is job-ready and equipped to climb the ladders of life.
We understand the importance of economic mobility, especially in a country with high rates of poverty, low rates of literacy, and a large unskilled population. It is imperative for them to receive the necessary training and develop essential skills for their social and economic growth. Keeping this in mind, we have special training programs for youth and women with or without formal education, that make them job-ready, and help them become financially independent.
Healthy communities can function to the best of their abilities when there is clean air, pollutant-free water, abundant natural resources, and a non-toxic surrounding. And at United Way Bengaluru, we recognize the importance of maintaining such an environment and take regular steps to safeguard it by organizing clean drives, conservation programs, and awareness campaigns.
