The first Rise for Rural program was established in 2015, in 23 villages of Yelesandra Gram Panchayat, Bangarpet taluk. Despite their proximity to the city, these villages were engulfed by several issues affecting the quality of their day-to-day lives. United Way stepped up and mobilized the community to help co-create solutions. The Rise for Rural program has now scaled up to 100 villages in Bangarpet, Doddaballapur, Devanahalli, Alur, and Nelamangala taluks. With support from different partners, we have successfully addressed some of the most critical issues faced by rural communities, including:
Our mobile healthcare facility goes to 24 villages every week to diagnose, treat, and educate people about better health and proper hygiene. We partner with doctors, nurses, and pharmacists who tour the rural areas in this vehicle that is well-equipped with medicines and first aid.
We have implemented anganwadis across rural areas to help parents understand the importance of overall development for a child (0-6 years of age) to be school ready - socially, physically, and mentally.
Since education and skill levels are not optimum in rural areas, we support rural populations with credit and hands-on training. This enables them to run micro-enterprises and pursue skill-based occupations, which in turn help them stay rooted and bring down distress migration.
Youth upskilling holds the key to strengthening the country's future. With active support from our corporate donors, youth in villages and around the city are being empowered with need-based support on the basis of their capacity and aptitude.
