International Plastic Bag Free Day

posted on 3rd July 2021, ENVIRONMENT

Did you know, we use 100 trillion plastic bags per year? (Source: National Geographic)

The number presents a grim situation but unfortunately, we are responsible for this.

In collaboration with LM Wind Power India Pvt Ltd, we have been creating awareness among buyers and sellers in the weekly Sompura market at the Nelamangala taluk in the Bengaluru rural district of Karnataka since 2019. From conversations around the impact of plastic to changing people’s behaviour by distributing cloth bags and paper covers, every single week (except during the lockdown) we worked towards the cause.

Today, buyers and sellers in the market are abstaining from using plastic bags. We are yet to reach the 100 per cent mark but we are hopeful that one day we shall be able to make it a plastic-free zone.

This would not have been possible without the collaborative efforts of the Gram Panchayat, the team from LM Wind Power, our volunteers and our field team.
