Brief profile of the project: The first five years of a child's life are fundamental that shapes their future health, happiness, growth, development and learning achievement at school, in the family and community, and in general their entire lifecourse. These crucial years have a direct impact on how children develop learning skills as well as social and emotional abilities. Therefore, Early Education program implemented by United Way of Bengaluru through its campaign ‘Born Learning’ focuses on the development of the following skills: a) Social b) Emotional c)Gross Motor d) Fine Motor e) Cognitive & f) Language. Besides, the campaign sensitizes on the importance of nutrition and works closely with mothers to help children between 0-6 years towards their holistic childhood development – creating a meaningful intervention during this stage to optimize the learning abilities among children.

The objective of WTL are as follows:
a. Restoration of quality of water in the lake; free from garbage, effluents and other pollutants.
b. Revival of eco-system in the lake by creating micro climate for aquatic flora and fauna.
c. Increase ground water level in the vicinity of the lake leading to availability of potable water.
d.To bring about community ownership through active volunteerism.

Brief profile of the project: The project looks to provide infrastructure including cycle stands, road safety signage and traffic calming interventions in the ward of Sanjaynagar, to increase the number of people cycling & walking in the ward. The project will also involve creating awareness in the neighbourhood through outreach programs in the schools and homes and cycle day events. School children are the primary stakeholders, for whom the project aims to provide safe environments to cycle and walk to school. It looks to increase the number of cyclists from 16 to 32% through the installation of 40 cycle stands and provision of 6 traffic safety wardens.

Brief profile of the project: The project looks at re-designing an existing garbage transfer point (lorry point) in the neighbourhood, to an clean and efficient garbage transfer station. This transfer point spanning an area of approx. 1200 - 1500 sqft will handle 500kg of waste daily from 1000HH in the neighbourhood facilitating easier transfers and help maintaining cleanliness of the site. The design will also include building draining lines so as to channelize rainwater away for filtration, storage and recharge at site. The residual space is planned to be organised for a parking zone in the area.

Brief profile of the project: The project looks to address the issue of the sewage treatment for the neighbourhood, by proposing the construction of an underground zero electricity anaerobic STP of processing capacity of 100KLD. The first phase of the STP built will have a processing capacity of 20KLD. This is proposed to be built on land reservation (measuring11 guntas, i.e., 11,979 sq.ft) of an existing high tension power line in the area. Once treated, the water is to be released into rainwater harvesting percolation pits built in residual area of the site (funded by the community), with excess water continuing down the storm drain.

The targeted users for this service are slums, street vendors and low income houses that do not have financial capacity or opportunity to instantly access off grid solar lighting systems. The kiosk is planned to be installed in locations such as bus stops to capitalize on existing footfall and their high visibility. Off Grid lighting will save 3L of kerosene per family per month in slums, while the shift to solar will save Rs.200 per month per street vendor.

Brief profile of the project: Uttarahalli Lake is situated near Uttarahalli bus stand, Lake is spread in 15 acres and filled with water. BBMP and UWBe jointly taken up rejuvenation work in the year 2011, completed the civil work (bund formation, walk path fencing, sewage diversion) planted more than 1000 saplings and helped in restoring the bio-diversity in the lake.

Presently we are in the process of sustaining the bio-diversity in the lake and empowering the local community safe guard and retain the lake in the good condition.

Inhabitants of Uttarahalli ward, about 30,000 people who are directly or indirectly benefitted by this lake. There are 500 + regular walkers who are directly benefiting.
